Cherokee Golf Course, aka "The Chief" is a Public, 18 hole golf course located in Danville, Pennsylvania.
Cherokee Golf Course first opened for play in 1972. The course was designed by John F. Robinson.
The Chief Golf Course is a championship,18-hole course built among the rolling, windswept hills of northern Michigan. Elevation changes abound throughout the course making The Chief not only beautiful but challenging. Water comes into play on at least four holes, and bunkers are strategically located throughout the course. The Chief plays from 4,738 to 6,600-yards and there are four sets of tees to challenge a variety of skill levels.
A towering 12-foot tall Indian head carving stands proudly at the entrance welcoming golfers to an experience that features dramatic elevation changes, spectacular views and a test of skill.
The fairways at The Chief are somewhat tight but open up at the landing areas. A stream runs through a valley off the side of the No. 10 tee. Four holes play through a meadow, creating a links-style look, giving the course a slightly different character than the wooded hills and valleys. The terrain has a subtle role to it.
Nestled in the Susquehanna River Valley, The Cherokee Golf Course is a short and reasonably fair layout with tree-lined fairways, in a beautiful setting and with great views. Flat and easily walkable, it has some challenges with water, either ponds or a stream in play on seven holes, some blind shots, but otherwise very straightforward and playable course, good for all skill levels
The Cherokee Golf Course is a par-72 layout that measures 6,065 yards from the back tees. The course rating is 68.4 with a slope rating of 114. Carts are optional, you may walk at any time, and pull carts and clubs are available for rental.
Cherokee Golf Course closed on in the fall of 2012.
The trees were removed as the course owners signed a five-year lease with Furmano Foods to farm the land. That company specializes in tomatoes, but for at least the first year, the farm will be corn.

The course plays very well for women but the greens were on the slow side. We heard of this course from golf now. We live a little over an hour away so we decided to book through them just to see if this was a course we would be playing in the future. But it is not. We told the woman behind the counter that we had a t time from golf now and to my amazement she actually got mad at us. It was so uncomfortable. She said they make no money off of them why didnt we use their website. New customers should mot be treated like they are cheap and are not welcome for booking a t time they offer. We have used golf now to find many courses and when we like a course we return with friends too and pay regular price bc we really enjoy it. I was insulted and will never return to this course again.

Found the course to be equally challenging and exciting. As a beginner, it offers the right amount of challenge. There is a difficult water hole on back nine that makes you dogleg right and lay up, then fire up over an embankment to the green on the other side of water. The shot is blind shot and requires skill. I am a regular there when I am in town and really enjoy the staff and course and highly recommend.
